Golden Pheasant

Spring 2023

The Golden Pheasant is native to the mountainous forests of western China. Males are famous for their striking plumage—a brilliant golden crest, deep red body, and iridescent blue and green feathers—used to attract females during courtship displays. These birds are shy and prefer dense undergrowth, where they feed mainly on seeds, berries, and insects. Although their wild populations are difficult to estimate, Golden Pheasants have been widely introduced to other parts of the world and are admired for their vivid colors and graceful appearance.
